PETER GUTHRIE’S
LIGHTING WORKSHOP

Five days with Peter Guthrie, the well-known Artist for his HDRI skies. Only five days to learn how to master lighting.

Peter Guthrie, who is a founder of The Boundary studio in London and an international artist who has collaborated with the most important architects such as Renzo Piano Building Workshop, Tadao Ando, Tom Phifer & Partners and many others, has chosen the SOA Academy as the location to teach his Lighting Masterclass. The course, which is addressed to professionals who have a good knowledge of 3dsMax and V-Ray, will cover all techniques to correctly light different scenes. The course will be focused around taking an existing scene or scenes and reworking them with lighting and atmosphere being the main topics under discussion.

Creating atmosphere through lighting and environmental effects, we will look at how starting with a common scene & assets, students can create a unique set of images with their own style & mood. Throughout the course the emphasis will be on being creative and using whatever tools are necessary to achieve the final product rather than teaching usage of specific techniques. The programme is designed to be an approximation of the workflow employed in Peter’s work. Students should already be comfortable with 3d studio max, vray/corona and itoosoft forest pro to get the most out of this course.

METHODOLOGY

We give space to theory, great attention to practice. In all SoA Academy classes, we first want to teach the proper workflow to follow and then give space to practical exercises and real case studies, which will be available thanks to the teachers’ long experience in the field. Our aim is to shape artists who can better express their abilities in the working world. We’re not only talking about knowing the software from a technical point of view, but also stimulating your creativity, making you aware of your artistic personality, broadening your imagination and moving beyond your abilities.
